ElCap Report 10/06/11

ElCap Report 10/06/11
By Tom Evans

Yo… The Big Storm has been pounding us since early yesterday but is showing signs of clearing off.  Last night it rained hard for several hours and even a few flakes of snow graced the Valley floor before melting.  Camp 4 was Water World all day and night.  It has been very cold and wet most of today but slowly clearing.

I saw Regan in the Café this morning and he confirmed that he did get off the route before the rain came.  He spent the night on top in his ledge, hanging from the tree, at the end of the route.  In a break in the weather he made a dash for the deck, leaving his stuff secured on top.  He will tell his story most likely in one of his well known and highly regarded  “trip reports”.
The weather looks solid for the next several days and teams are already hauling kit to the base.

Today’s ElCap Report…written just for you…unique in all the world!

After a cold and wet night in the pool at Camp 4 I had some breakfast and then made a Beeline for the Captain.  The face was covered in cloud and it was some time before it lifted and shifted enough to allow me to see anything.
ElCap this morning.

Trip:  I spotted the ledge of the Lithuanians in the same place as yesterday.  No one was out on lead… a good thing I think.  When the weather improves, later today, they will, most likely, start moving higher.  Sunny and cool tomorrow!
Home sweet home!

I drove around to various favorite spots and got a few shots for the report.
Yosemite Falls, Lost Arrow Spire, and Yosemite Point Buttress rising above “Tool Town”.

Yesterdays climbers were Alik Berg on Waterfall route and ... boy you guys missed this one... Yuji on the Nose!

I came back to the “office” early today to get some images done and write the report.  Fortunately, Merry and Werner let their cat have the run of the place and she (Simon) is a real sweetie.  I love cats but can’t have one, as I’m gone from home for weeks and months at a time.  So I get some “cat time” while I process images and do the report!

Here are a couple shots of Simon checking out the progress on my projects.

I'm outa here!

Stay dry

Thanks as always. Looking forward to seeing what Yuji is up to and like everyone else- to see Kevin and Tommy send!
