ElCap Report 6/21 to 6/25/2014 Last Report for the Spring Season

ElCap Report 6/21 to 6/25/2014  Late season Report, last of this spring.

By Tom Evans

Yo... I am home now but wanted to post this last report.  It covers the last few days of the season when the internet was not available to me.  There was some nice action on the NA Wall, Salathe, Zodiac, Muir and the Nose.  Many thanks to those of you who have sent a donation to the site... greatly appreciated!

Yo.. Sorry to have missed yesterday but the internet, for us common folks, has been down for two days in a row now and that does make it difficult to do reports on a regular basis.  So this one will be a catch up one.

Today's ElCap Report...written just for you...unique in all the world!

I have learned that the internet here has been shut down for good except the lodge one and it is terrible... so until and unless this changes this is the last report of the season.  If I am able to find something in the immediate future I am finished for the Spring Season... and I will have the summer to see what arrangements I can make.  Thanks to all you who have been loyal readers and supporters of the Report!

Yo... Splendid weather continues to dominate the Sierra.  So this is the time for you to take your last shot at the Captain before the heat makes it a suffer fest.

Today's ElCap Report...written just for you...unique in all the world!

1)  The Team Extreme Riders (TER) team is off Aurora now and onto the last pitches of the Trip.  They should be off tomorrow.  Here they are getting out early in the morning.  They did top out the next morning after an excellent effort!

Yo... Another day of climbing, in great weather, closed out.  Cool enough to be a late Sept. day with a strong breeze coming from the west.  We still need some new climbers to get up on the Cap.  The action continues on the Nose, Zodiac, Aurora, Cosmos and the Salathe.  Speaking of Cosmos... Jim Reynolds is still out there knocking off the pitches.  Unfortunately by the time I get out west to shoot him the heat is on and photography is difficult because of the shimmering air currents sweeping up the face... and he sometimes just hides out in the afternoon heat.  But the main thing is he is doing well and getting the job done.

Yo... Cool and windy seems to be the weather pattern for the moment.  Climbers are showing up to get on the good routes.  So come on out!

Yo... perfect weather is here and we still need some replacements for the teams that have climbed and gone home... what about You??

I noticed a forest fire just starting up on my way into the park this morning.  We have had smoke drifting in all day and that is making for some bad atmospherics.

ElCap Report 6/13/14

Yo... Splendid weather now... cool and sunny... no rain in any forecast.  Still lots of open routes and plenty of time for you to get on something.

We did have an accident last evening.  Alex and Brandon were fixing the first on Lunar Eclipse when Brandon pulled a head and the next piece, a newer BD #5 nut, as I recall, had its cable break!  The next piece down, another nut with a sling on it had the biner come off the sling.  Anyway Brandon went to the deck and YOSAR was called to the scene.  Broken hip was the call from the scene and Brandon was collected and flown out on a med-evac flight.  I talked to Alex this morning and it seems that Brandon was lucky... he has a very badly bruised hip, a broken rib, and a lost tooth or two but other wise is ok.  Check your nuts!!

Yo.. The great weather is here and looking like hanging on for the rest of the season.  Cool up high today as witnessed by the Shield crew in puffy jackets and windbreakers all day!  Most of the action is on the Nose and Salathe/Freerider.  Zodiac is now empty... so this is your window of opportunity for that great classic.

Yo.. Hey the weather continues to be great up on the wall... a bit too hot on the Valley floor.  Not a lot of action on the cliff but the routes that are going are seeing some good teams on this today.  The internet I have been using has changed and it is very slow now... so I will get this report done and see what I can find for the next one.

ElCap Report 6/8 to 6/9 2014

Yo... Ok the great weather continues but on the warm side.  A cooling trend is expected in the next few days.  So be here, or be stupid.

I only have about an hour of internet access these days so those of you who are not in Yosemite and are emailing me for your climbing shots will have to bear with me... Drop Box takes ages to download so many images so it will take some time for me to get back to you.... have patience please and keep sending me email reminders every week or so and that way I will remember who you are!  Yesterday, Allfrey and Honnold finished their 7 ElCap routes in 7 days.  They finished on the 3D in a time of 5:15 which is a new time record.  So out of the 7 climbs they got 4 new speed records... not bad for a couple of young guys!!
