ElCap Report 10/1/14

By Tom Evans

Yo…Killer weather is the order of the day!  The Nose is mobbed and the Salathe almost vacant!  The other occupied routes are entertaining single parties only.

Sorry for the late postings of the reports of late.  I have been using the Lodge internet and it is only productive before 4pm so after shooting, processing images, and writing the report it is too late to post it that day.  So have patience please.

ElCap Report 9/30/14

Yo… Solid Fall climbing weather has set in and the Bridge crew has seen a rush of wantabe Freerider/Salathe free teams, swarming over the route on practice runs.  The lower part of the Nose is infested with teams with questionable talent, hauling big bags and big dreams.  The rest of the Cap goes virtually unused.  So now that Fall is in full swing, this is the time for the rest of you, holding back, to get your sorry butts here and up on the Captain!!  Cubicle Pukes!!  Unshackle your chains and run for the door!  Just tell them that Tom said it was ok!

Yo…Finally the stormy weather has passed on to the east and spectacular Fall conditions have settled in again.  The storm was far more powerful than we had anticipated but the teams remaining on the Cap all fared well and are continuing upward.  The rain was much needed and hopefully cut the fire season short in this area at least.

Yo... continued rain today heavy at times... no one climbing much ... just sitting waiting for the weather to clear.  Two teams on the Nose topped out this afternoon after what must have been an uncomfortable night at Camp 5 and 6.

Yo… Thicker clouds moved in last evening and we had some rain late last night.  When I arrived at the Bridge, around 8:15am, most of the clouds had lessened and the sun was in and out for most of the day.  As I am writing this report, at 6pm, it has started raining but not with much intensity.  We expect tomorrow to be a day of clearing and the weather to improve over the next two days.  The Captain is pretty empty at the moment but here is what I have for today.

Yo… A few drops of rain fell in the middle of the last night.  Nice clouds all day and great light for shooting climbers.  Windy and cold at the Bridge.  This will be the Report for this day and I will put all the shots in when I can.  Still looking for good internet.  If anyone reading this is living in the Valley, I would be happy to pay you 2X your monthly internet bill to use your internet for about a half an hour a day.  Contact me ASAP if you can help with this problem… thousands of climbers and loved ones of climbers on the wall will thank you!!

Yo…We’ve had super duper weather the past several days.  I awoke to mostly cloudy skies, with rapid cloud movement today.  Lots of shadows on the wall, which made for good shooting.  There have been many climbers on the Nose over the last 3 days, and the clusterfcuk has been impressive.

THE BIG NEWS OF THE 24TH WAS THAT CHANTEL ASTORGA SOLOED THE NOSE IN A WOMEN'S RECORD TIME OF 24:39, JUST MISSING BECOMING THE FIRST WOMAN TO SOLO ELCAP IN A DAY!!   Read all about it below!

Yo… It couldn’t be nicer than today was here in Yosemite.  Gorgeous Fall weather continues to dominate the scene, bringing many more climbers onto the great rock.  You, sedentary Pukes, hiding in your cubicles, need to get out of that chair and come to Yosemite to climb the route of your dreams!  The season is on big time.  This week the Face Life is commanding the attention of a lot of climbers and thus the Report may skip a day or two so I can attend the evening events.  Also folks .. the driving back and forth to and from the Valley is very expensive, along with other things here.. so any donations you can make to the website (Donate Button up on the left) are always greatly appreciated!!

Yo… Spectacular weather has moved into the Valley with clear skies and cool temperatures.  Yes!!  The Face Lift is on this week so you can forget about camping unless you have made reservations in advance.  Most of the action continues to be on trade routes.

Yo… Ok dedicated ElCap Report readers… I have returned to the Valley for the Fall season.  The past two days the Valley has been a smoke filled caldron that has made shooting rather difficult.  Today was really nice as we had a big thunder storm last night and the subsequent rain cleared the smoke, from the fires to the west, out of the Valley.  Internet is tenuous this season and I will do my best to keep the report going.
