ElCap Report 9/24/15

By Tom Evans

Yo.. The day started out a little cooler, with high clouds, and by 10am the clouds vanished and the temperature soared back up into the low 90’s.  While there are a fair number of climbers on the wall they are mostly concentrated on the Nose.  The Facelift is in full swing now and everyone is having a good time at the evenings shows and the park is getting cleaned… everyone wins!

Yo… Warm temperatures are still keeping the masses off ElCap.  I understand that several teams are fixing low on the Nose but not many have ventured very high.  Not much going on at the moment.

Yo…Continued heat and the Facelift are keeping the wall population in check.  The heat is supposed to break on Friday so we should have some good action on the hill from now on.  The showing of the Reel Rock Tour, at the evening Facelift, was well attended and everyone had a great time.  There was a little excitement in the meadow this afternoon…read about it below.

Yo.. Here in Yosemite, it has been way too hot for this time of year.  So, many teams have delayed their climbs until the hot spell passes.  There have been quite a few bails due to the weather and the great cliff is now mostly empty.  Tomorrow is the start of the Yosemite Facelift, and the heat is up too, so don’t expect to get a Report every day for a while.

Yo… It was a little too warm and calm on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.  We didn’t get much relief in the shade of our tree, in the EC meadow, so it must have been pretty bad up on the Cap.  However, the action continued up on the hill.  Several teams reached the top today so we will not see them again for a while.  The weather is supposed to improve within the next few days… and the Facelift is just around the corner, so there will be lots to do.

Yo.. Continued spectacular weather is dominating the climbing here in Yosemite.  Warm sun, blue skies, and a cool breeze are making conditions perfect for big wall climbing.  The action is heating up on the Captain so stay tuned for the rundown on all things climbing related.  I am here to report the happenings so that you will know what is going on and how your friends and loved ones are doing.  It is not an inexpensive task to do what I do, and I really appreciate any donations you can send my way.  If you got pictures from me and haven’t sent a donation then please consider doing it.

Yo!!!  Ok folks, the Fall season has started in earnest!  I drove up yesterday, in the rain most of the way.  The good news is that the rain really put a damper on the local fires that have been burning for some time.  Today the air was clear and the temperatures spot on for this time of year.  So… listen up all you Cubicle Pukes, chained to your desks, or stuck at home.  Try to figure out some way to get your sorry butts out of wherever you are and head to Yosemite to share the good times!  I got some new photography equipment and having some problems getting used to it… especially the camera which wants to take the beautiful Yosemite granite and give it a pink cast!  Not what I had in mind!  However I was able to work around it for the most part and hope to get it all figured out soon.

Yo.. The weather continues to hold without the excessive heat predicted.  We like that!  In a few days from now we will get our due as the temps are going over 100 degrees for the first time this year.  The “locals” did get the record on Aquarian yesterday, 18:10!

This will be the last ElCap Report of the Season.  Many thanks to those who have donated to the site.  Expenses were high this season and everything helps.  Also, thanks to you loyal readers who have read and supported the Report over the years.
