ElCap Report 6/14/10

ElCap 6/14/10

By Tom Evans

Yo…. So nice today!! Very quiet at the Bridge today with mostly climbers basking in the Glory. Hudon showed up early to glean another day of basking… however, Bob didn’t appear, breaking a two week string of daily basking. The action on the cliff is concentrated on the Nose and a few other routes. The Spring climbing is coming to a close now and the heat is slowly ratcheting up. But your man, ElCap pics, continues to toil endlessly in hopes of capturing that magic moment for you. I soldier on, suffering in silence! Anyway…. Here it comes, directly to you, via the WWW.

Today’s ElCap Report…written just for you…unique in all the world!

Lunar Eclipse: The Team Extreme Riders were here at the bridge this morning looking at their fellow Riders on Lost in America. They have confirmed that team has 8 days of rations. I took a shot of the Lunar team and here it is …

The Trip:  I did see a team of two climbers on the grungy second pitch of the Trip this afternoon.

Mowing the lawn on the Trips second.

Lost in America: These three climbers, so nicely dressed, continue to make progress up the rock and things just might work out in their favor. Kate said yesterday that they have passed most of the difficulties and she felt optimistic at their chances.

Afternoon on the expanse of the SE Face of ElCap.

New Dawn: This team of 4 Korean climbers, lead by RYoung Han, are doing very well on this route. They didn’t stay on ECT last night, preferring instead to bivy at the start of the traverse to the WEML. I saw them climbing across the traverse and then do two more pitches before I departed rather early today. They could be on Wino Tower tonight. Two more days.

Breaking the belay and cleaning on ND.

The Nose: This world favorite is jammed at the moment. The Korean Youths are climbing well and moving right along. They will be off tomorrow. There are several wall style teams scattered along the route with two above the KS and a raft below. Several parties made their way up the Legs as the afternoon dragged on. Two Korean climbers climbed from Dolt to the top of the Boot as I departed. Their woman friend stopped by this morning and demanded I take some “good photographs” of her friends! It’s like that sometimes at the Bridge!

Salathe: I did see a team up around the FR traverse this morning and later a couple of guys were working the headwall.

In other news: Several teams have come to me asking me to pray for them…. Just kidding of course… Anyway, there are teams about to shove off on Mescalito, Sunkist, Zodiac, Mushroom, Shield and a solo on the Trip…. So things should get interesting as we languish in the shadow of the Nose’s 14 teams. Uli and Hondo made a run up the 3D today with full camera coverage up high. They ran into the largest clusterfuck ever seen on the Nose as I counted 15 people within a pitch of, and at Camp 5. They are still sorting out the ropes!

I did take an early exit from the Bridge this afternoon and went for an hour bike ride around to some favorite spots.

Scenic’s of the Day!
