ElCap Report 6/5/09
By Tom Evans
Yo… Well our luck ran out with the weather today.  I heard the pitter patter on my tent, late in the night and knew the run was over. The guys on the SE Face played the smart bet and are warm and dry as the steepness has sheltered them from the rains.  However, the rain has been light, but longer in duration than those of recent times.  No big down pours have occurred thus far.  I went down to the bridge at 10am and scoped it out.  The Shield boys were breaking down their ledge as I arrived and were soon leading toward Chickenhead ledge, where they are most likely interned.  The guys on Mescalito were also out in the weather but looked cozy in their ledge and have made no move to get out and climb the two pitches to the Bismarck Ledge.

The Koreans on the Straw are climbing, as are Pete and Leo, and a new team on Zodiac.  So those guys are not effected at all.  The two solo’s on Zodiac are snuggly residing under the Mark of Zorro and are staying put even though they could climb sheltered.   A new team appeared the be sitting easy on the NA Wall. The weather is supposed to be getting a little better tomorrow and improving for several days.
It was very beautiful here today with low clouds lingering on all the great cliffs.  The Captain was resplendent with banners of clouds crossing its face from west to east.  The café was full all day with endless monkeys and Tourons jockeying for positions at the electrical outlets.  It was a good time.
Below are some shots from this day.

Thanks for this site

Was in Yosemite last week & stopped by the bridge. Checked out your telescope & spent some time talking with Jeanette. Have never been climbing - but am now hooked on your nightly reports. Thanks - enjoy the reports & the pictures

Love the pics

Tom,

The shots of the wall with the clouds in'em... Pretty cool stuff, despite the haze. Kinda ghostly.

Wildflowers, bears, breakfast... What don't you photograph?

Thanks,

Hey.. What's with the Piton Pete? What's he got in all those bags?

I'll bet there is at least one bag he never goes into while on the wall...

Cheers

Nice pics

Love the saturated colors and clouds. Thanks for reminding to never go into the cafeteria.

Cheers, Tom.
