ElCap Report 10/30/11
By Tom Evans
Yo… October rules here in the Valley. Best month in years! Very little action on the Captain today. So this is going to be brief and to the point.
Today’s ElCap Report…written just for you…unique in all the world!
1) Trip: Daryl and Matt climbed off in mid afternoon today.
NA Wall: The two rangers and the mystery climber climbed across the traverse and over the Roof pitch by mid afternoon. They were headed to the Cyclops Eye when I left around 5:50pm.
2) Jesse lowering out the bags on the traverse pitch to the Black Dihedral.
3) The crew in deep shade under the Black Dihedral. Ben Doyle leading to the Roof.
4) Harrison jugging up to the end of the Roof pitch, which Ben Doyle lead in a clever disguise of Gray and black. Who dresses that man?
Nose: The Nose is so empty now. We had a NIAD today with Tyler and partner being spotted at the Great Roof early this morning when I arrived. They climbed steadily and I last saw them at the Glowering Spot around 3pm. They will most likely finish sometime after dark tonight.
5)..Pancake Flake.
6) Pitch into Camp 5.
Tommy project: The Man climbed a 14a pitch before I arrived this morning. Later, in deep shade, he climbed the short 8th pitch (13c) and then the longer 9th (13d) finishing just before dark. He looked solid most of the time with one little glitch on the 9th pitch when he got his feet crossed in the wrong sequence. He quickly cleaned the gear and climbed the pitch without incident. His mom and dad watched for a time at the Bridge as did several climbers. It was a good show!
7) Tommy starting the 8th pitch.
8) Long reach, early on the 9th.
9) Don’t try this at home!
In other news: Hans and Hondo are on for a run at the Nose record on Tuesday between 9 and 10am, I hear. Be there or be square. Tommy’s show goes on daily with the crux days ahead. The rock is really empty so come on out and enjoy the last days of Fall in the Valley.
So that’s the way it is, for this Sunday, the 30th day of October, 2011
Later, Tom
