ElCap Report 10/19/10
By Tom Evans
Yo… wonderful day here today with clear skies, light breeze, and cool temperatures. The teams who weathered the storm, of a few days ago, have climbed off this afternoon. So, the interesting stuff seems to be over for a time. Anyway, I need to get some rest as I am still not well, but am feeling better...so here it is…
Today’s ElCap Report…written just for you…unique in all the world!
Zodiac: A team of Colorado climbers, Gill and Wess, blasted on the reg start from the ground. They were doing the third as I departed.

Zodiac's third.
ZM: At 3pm, Paul and Jeremy were just a short pitch from the top and I assume have made it by now. Not a fast team, but one not deterred by any situation they met on the route. Good to see them complete the route. I'm sure they are a lot happier than I am about it!
Nose: Three teams appeared on the King today. One is a NIAD team of two who were doing the Boot as I arrived. They climbed pretty well but were a long way from home when I left this afternoon. A nice moon will help them, when darkness overtakes them in the upper dihedral.

NIAD team on the lower out from the Great Roof.
Lower down a team of two had the lead but were closely dogged by a team of three who are, unfortunately, horribly dressed for photos. Both teams climbed to ECT without any difficulties and will fix a couple and settle in for the night. What's up with all the dark clothing of late on the Cap? The light is right, the time of year is right, and you guys are showing up wearing Black?! WTF!

Team of two climbing above Dolt Tower this afternoon.

Team of three climbing toward ECT.
Shield: I saw John finish leading the next to last pitch this afternoon around 2pm and I assume they are off by now. They will have an interesting story to tell, with being caught on the headwall in a pretty hefty storm.
Aquarian: I saw Pete and Kate mostly hauling kit higher today. They look to have fixed a pitch or more above the last bivy, as is their custom.

Pete dealing with his kit as Kate's moves higher.
A couple more shots from around the Valley.

Aspens at the Lodge this morning.

Dogwood leaves and seeds.
In other news: Now that the EC shuttle has stopped for the season, the Bridge has become a very quiet place. My buddy Chris Falkenstein and wife rode by on bikes and stopped for a brief chat. Kirk and Zack came by and told their tale of woe on VA/Trip. Zack was feeling better this morning, and left for home.
So that’s the way it is for this Tuesday, the 19th day of October, 2010.

WHERE IS THIS "The Prophet" THAT HOULDING IS WORKING ON?
It is on the far right side, and combines several routes like Bad to the Bone, Eagles Way and a couple others. Tom Evans
Thanks Tom for the reports.
Thanks Tom for the reports. Hanging in the Modesto airport after my cancelled flight back to Denver. It was nice to meet you, if only for a moment. Our ZM trip was a fun trip. We wanted to spend five night on the wall, and got an extra bonus night with the storm. Never meant to go fast - and it was Jeremy's first El Cap route! Paul
Jeremy came by the Bridge this afternoon and he was seriously psyched! Hey it is about the experience not the speed! Congrats on another ElCap route! Tom Evans
Interesting shot of the 3rd
Interesting shot of the 3rd on Zodiac incorporating parts of the st, 2nd, and 3rd. You always have a different way to shoot the same subject. Thanks for that. Also love all the pics on the valley floor at this time of the year.
Cheers,
Doug
Any word on the TC
Any word on the TC Project?
If there was any word on the TC project I would write about it.... if I don't mention it in the report, then I don't know anything. Tom Evans

I was impressed that the team of two was on pitch 19 before noon. One is from Squamish, and the other one is my man, Reuben, from Truckee. Thanks for the awesome picture!
It was a pleasure to meet you
It was a pleasure to meet you at the bridge a week ago Tom. Thank you for your reports. They are funny, well written, and keep many more people informed then you know! cheers!

How long will you be in the Valley, Tom? I'd like to see you and swill a Cobra or two before you go into hibernation. Thanks for all your work. It is appreciated more than you know.
