ElCap Report 10/12/12

ElCap Report 10/12/12

By Tom Evans

Yo.. The weather has not been much to talk about thus far. The “storm” is hardly that. Sprinkles every few hours with no real accumulation. People were climbing on the Captain today and you can read all about it below.

Today’s ElCap Report…written just for you…. Unique in all the world!

Zodiac: I watched the mixed team jug back to their kit at the top of three but left before they lead out.

1)  Trip: I saw a team of two lead the 6th pitch early in the afternoon. Where did they come from? Anyway, they were moving right along.

Native Son: Cheyne and Mark continued climbing as the weather has had zero effect on them. Cheyne was out on point, over some confusing ground.

2)  Cheyne leading into the middle of the route.

3)  Looks like Cheyne got a little lost here … so what did he do? Read the topo!

Lower down Marek didn’t do much, preferring instead to spend the day in his ledge. He needs to get moving. The weather should have no effect on him as sheltered as he is. Hello Marek…earth calling!

NA Wall: The team of Jack and Rody were supposed to start today but I couldn’t see anything over there.

Mescalito: Rex and Pete were out on lead when I arrived and were finishing the 7th pitch.

Lower down I saw someone from the new all UK team of, Oli, Pete, and Paul, climbing lines fixed to the top of 4 this afternoon.

Nose: I saw two teams in the Stovelegs this afternoon. Dolt Tower was obscured by clouds and the party in the lead was heading into the mist. One of the teams is supposed to be the German women, Charlie and Evan.

4)  The lower team had just started into the Legs, and are a Spanish couple, Jose Esquirol and Gencidna Meneses.

Muir: I got a glimpse, through the dense, obscuring mist and saw the ledge and fly of the Ninja Boy…. Ha!.. It is bright orange! Make a shirt out of it man!!

Shield: The Mike’s are in the same place as yesterday … ledged up.

Salathe: I did get the slightest glance at the Block this afternoon and saw two guys on it. The second just arrived after cleaning the pitch.

5)  Lost World: I did spot the ledges of this team from the Bridge.

In other news: This weather is supposed to clear out shortly and temperatures are to return to the 70’s by tomorrow. There were blue patches among the swirling clouds this afternoon. No real precipitation will be measured from this cloud fest.

The show at the East Auditorium this evening, featuring Hans Florine, starts at 6:30pm.

So that’s the way it is, for this Friday, the 12th day of October, 2012.

Later, Tom
