ElCap Report 9/19/10

ElCap Report 9/19/10

By Tom Evans

Yo… cooler today with a strong west wind in the afternoon, as a cold front moved in. The predicted 20% chance of rain produced no moisture but had the lads on the Nose bundled up in puffies. The Nose is the only route with more than one party on it …so… not a lot to report on today as there were no extraordinary events.

Yo… the great weather continues as the Captain stays mostly empty. We have some climbing about to happen but at the moment the reporting is pretty thin. However there was a big rescue off the Nose today and I will include it at the end of the normal report. Needless to say…. YOSAR did it again and another climber owes his life to the dedicated members of the team. It is getting late and I did a zillion shots today so I will get right to the report.

Yo... with the exception of some haze from fires to the south, it was a nice here in the Valley today.  There is still a lack of climbers on the Captain but I think the situation is about to change.  The weather looks good with only a slight chance of rain on Sunday.  It is kind of slow around here these days so come on out so I will have something to write about and not have to make up stuff, like Pete having 20 porters taking his gear to the rock!  Maybe you should review the disclaimer on the Home page if you are believing everything you read here!

Yo…cooler today, mid 70’s, here in Yosemite Valley. As of yet, that has not brought out the masses to climb the Big Stone. I am getting pretty sick of only having a few parties to photograph on the Cap. And you are getting sick of seeing the same locations too. So …. once again it is time for you boys and girls to man-up and get your butts on the rock!

Most of the usual suspects have now arrived in the Valley but seem to have gone craggin instead of wallin…. Totally unacceptable Pukes!! Totally unacceptable… hell you can do that stuff at home. So pack up your haul bags, drag your sorry butts up to the base, and get on the wall… or you will have to answer in person to me… and  you don’t want to go there!!

Today’s ElCap Report… written just for you… unique in all the world!

Yo… really a fine day here in the Valley. The Big Trades are the story today. The rock is pretty empty for this time of year and weather conditions.

Cubicle Pukes… it’s time for you to get out of your chairs, and head for the Valley…remember the Face Lift next week and after that why don’t you stay a few days and climb something on the Captain? This is your chance to get a few days of fame on the ECR. I can see it now… you’ve just come down after a great ElCap climb and I am handing you a cold Cobra, while all the Bridge Rats are congratulating you! You get a whole day to bask in the glory, tell and retell your epic tale of ElCap conquest! For this one day, YOU are the hero of the Bridge, the object of envy and worship! Hey, it doesn’t get any better than that!!

Yo… Yes, yes the ElCap Report is back! I drove up, from my home in Crestline CA yesterday, arriving around 7:30 in the morning. It is always nice to drive into the Valley for the first after a long absence, as it awakens many memories and kindles anticipation. Yesterday I spent the day setting up camp, sorting through equipment, talking with old friends, and later shooting some test shots, down at the Bridge. The weather is warm but not hot and the action is building on the Cap. I spent today shooting at the Bridge and restarting the “Ask a Climber” program for the Fall season.
